What: The St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners Budget Hearing
When: Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Time: Sign up to speak 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.; the hearing begins at 6:30
Where: Chopticon High School, 25390 Colton Point Rd., Morganza
Why: The BoCC controls the pursestrings of the SMCPS Budget. The BoCC needs to know that you believe that our school system needs to be fully funded beyond the current levels of funding in order to meet the needs of all students, including our children who learn differently.
What happens: You walk in, sign up to speak, and listen to 1) the BoCC's opening remarks, 2) their presentation of the budget, 3) and the hearing on the constant yield tax rate. Then they hold the hearing on the budget: Speakers are called up one-by-one to speak for 3 minutes max. You can stay or you can leave. That's it.
Alternative to speaking: If you don't wish to speak but are in support of a speaker's position (which you would have to know ahead of time), you can stand up behind that speaker.
Please come, talk, support: How can we advocate, how can we complain, if we don't take the opportunity to change it?
